The pace of life is busier than it has ever been. We are living in a society and a world that is primarily focused on productivity, accomplishing, achieving goals and being busy, busy, busy. When we have free time we often fill it with something- Facebook, emailing, talking, Instagram, shopping, writing to-do lists and fulfilling those lists. There is an experience for most people of being TOO busy and having TOO little time.
This busy and frenetic energy has made its way into our systems and our bodies leaving most people with an experience of a constant and underlying level of stress, disconnection, depression and/or anxiety. Truly the biggest issue most young people face now is anxiety and depression. How can we expect children to be resilient when so many ADULTS are feeling stressed out?
There is no coincidence that there has been an increase in the popularity of yoga over the past few years. It is truly the modern panacea for our modern day ailments. Yoga is a profound practice that is suitable for everyone. It doesn’t preference one gender, type of body, age or background.
Over the years I have seen people attend yoga classes with a host of physical and emotional issues, which they have been able to work through and find healing through the practice. But the key ingredient is consistency and commitment. Yoga doesn’t work if you don’t show up. It is easy for life to get in the way- whether it is children, work commitments or social engagements etc.
There is a great story of one of the forefathers who brought yoga to the West who stated that anyone can do yoga: “The young, the old, the very old, the sick and those who don’t have strength. Except those who are weak with commitment or lazy … they will not practice and so then they will say that yoga doesn’t work.”
Ouch? Pretty blunt… BUT its true. If there is something you have been struggling with in your life for a while, it won’t be fixed with one practice. Yoga ISN’T a quick fix. Just like any relationship- rekindling that relationship with your body, heart and mind takes time to develop. However, even within the one practice we often still glimpse moments of the deep experience of peace within us, which is often what keeps drawing us back to it time and time again.
Divine Warrior Yoga in Doreen (close proximity to Mernda, Yarrambat, South Morang and Whittlesea) now has a Gentle Yoga flow class on Monday evenings at 6.30pm. This practice is suitable for all levels and is a perfect option for the beginning yoga student who wants to dip their toes in and experience yoga for the first time.
Throughout these classes there is a focus on centering (bringing your awareness more deeply into your body), intention setting, breath work, stretching, strengthening and a deep relaxation at the end of the practice. The gentle yoga flow class will move you into a deeper connection with your body, your heart and your divine self and the deep consciousness within you.
If you want to be part of a transformational community and are ready to make some changes in your life I would LOVE to see you at a practice. I am now taking enrollments for Term 4, which will be commencing on Monday October 8th.
